SEMILLITES
Since 2017, Semillites has been working as a Graphic designer and illustrator, he worked 2+ years as an in-house Graphic Designer for BlackTusk Trading (Blenz Coffee). In 2019 he started working freelance in various disciplines, all related to visual arts and design. Semillites has led workshops in Vancouver with different organizations, such as: WePress, Watari Vancouver, United Way BC, Contemporary Art Gallery, HIM, Heart of the City Festival. The focus of his workshops has been visual art activities with a focus on self-portraiture and zine-making.
In 2021, he did his first public art installation all flowers deserve to play, in collaboration with Pride Artwalk Vancouver. Semillites was a recipient of the Wedge Residency (2021) from the Contemporary Art Gallery + Groundfloor Art Center. He is currently collaborating with his sister, Tania Hernández Velasco on a feature documentary My Body is An Expanding Star as an art director and illustrator. This project has been supported by FOCINE-IMCINE (2021) and Firelight Media's William Greaves Fund (United States, 2021). Semillites’ work has been featured in several magazines and festivals accross Canada and Mexico, such as: ROOM Magazine, Femme Art review, False Freedom Zine, Moniker Press, El Buen Trip, Trains magazine. And in festivals such as Ignite Youth Festival, Vines Art Festival, Unibrow Arts Fest and Pride Art walk.
During the last three years, Semillites has done several digital illustrations and graphic design projects in collaboration with Vancouver Foundation, Vancouver Latinamerican Film Festival, Simon Fraser University and The Tyee.
